For this lab, I worked with a partner to summarize and analyze data from wildlife cameras placed around campus. We calculated species diversity, daily activity patterns, and habitat associations of different species across three camera sites using 2020 camera data to tackle the question of how habitat differences affect White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus) occurrences. We calculated Shannon’s Diversity Index (SDI) and compared species diversity as well as graphed the daily activity pattern for various species. This project strengthened my teamwork and collaboration, quantitative reasoning, information literacy, and research skills.
